UWL Records Conference Win Over UW-River Falls

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team improved to 10-4-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with a 3-0 victory over UW-River Falls Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Eagles move into first-place in the conference standings with 10 points.  UW-River Falls drops to 8-7-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference. 

UWL, 6-0-1 in its last seven games, recorded its sixth straight shutout Saturday.  The Eagles have not allowed a goal in 586 minutes. UWL last allowed a goal in a 2-1 double overtime victory over Carleton College (Minn.) September 25.  

Kaitlyn Villars scored her team-leading ninth goal of the year.

Maddy Fennessy scored the first goal of the game at 38:12, her second of the season.  UWL led, 1-0, at halftime, finishing with 13 shots while holding UW-River Falls to one.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead early in the second half at 55:11 when Kaitlyn Villars found the back of the net on a penalty kick. It was Villars'  team-leading ninth goal of the season. Natalie Schisel notched her third goal of the year extending the Eagles lead to 3-0 at 81:16.  Ainsley Allan had the assist, her team-high sixth of the year.

UWL finished with 12 corner kicks while UW-River Falls totaled one. The Eagles had 31 shots overall, including 12 on goal. Villars had nine shots with five on goal while Schisel recorded four shots with two on goal. Katie Feller added three shots to the day. 

UW-River Falls had three shots, one on goal. Camryn Altnau, Lexi Peterson and Rachel Windingstad each had one shot with Altnau recording it on goal. 

Quinn Shannon earned the shutout for UWL, recording one save. Haley Crosby finished with nine saves for UW-River Falls. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 23 hosting UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
