Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-17, 32-30, 25-22) victory at UW-Platteville Friday night in Williams Fieldhouse. The Eagles improve to 11-11 overall and 1-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers fall to 15-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
UWL never trailed in the opening set, scoring the first three points. The Eagles led 13-4 after a
Caitlin Griffin kill. The Pioneers later cut the lead to 16-12, but could get no closer as the Eagles scored four of the next five points for a 20-13 advantage on an
Abbey Fox ace.
UWL hit .324 (15-3-37) in winning the set.
Abbey Fox had 24 assists and 12 digs Friday night.
UW-Platteville led, 17-12, in the second set when UWL went on a 8-1 run to lead 20-18. The set was tied 11 times after the Eagles took their two-point lead. UWL scored the final three points of the set after a UW-Platteville hitting error and back-to-back kills from
Emma Lawrence and Fox.
The third set was tied four times, including 20-20. UW-Platteville had a service and hitting error to give UWL a 22-20 lead. The Eagles'
Isabelle Jensen made it a three-point lead with an ace and the Pioneers had another hitting error to make it 24-20. UW-Platteville scored the next two points, but a kill from Lawrence finished the match.
Lawrence led UWL with 13 kills while
Liz Lansink finished with seven and
Anna Rossner six. Fox recorded 24 assists as the Eagles hit .142 (37-20-120) overall.
Fox led UWL with 12 digs while
Sophie Quelle finished with 11. The Eagles had 3.0 total team blocks,
Katie Jones and Hailey Youngren led UW-Platteville with seven kills each while Kaite Asche and Olivia Kudronowicz each had six. Sam Rossetti had 16 assists as the Pioneers hit .134 (34-18-119).
Stephani Kalinowski had a match-high 18 digs. UW-Platteville totaled 4.0 team blocks.
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 19 with a pair of matches in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Eagles face Millikin University (Ill.) at 10 a.m. and Illinois Wesleyan University at 2 p.m.
