Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-15) at city-rival Viterbo University (Wis.) Tuesday night in R.W. Beggs Senior Gymnasium. The Eagles drop to 8-8 overall while the V-Hawks, ranked sixth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), improve to 18-3.
In the opening set, Viterbo (Wis.) took a 10-6 lead after three straight points. The V-Hawks led, 14-9, when the Eagles went on a 8-3 run to force a 17-17 tie. The set was tied, 18-18, but a pair of kills by Katie Frohmader gave Viterbo (Wis.) a two-point lead.
Emma Lawrence later came back for UWL with two straight kills to tie it, 21-21. The V-Hawks then scored four of the final five points to earn the set win.
Viterbo (Wis.) led 4-1 in the second set, but UWL used a 5-0 run to lead 6-4 on a V-Hawks' hitting error. Viterbo (Wis.) went on a 7-2 run to lead, 11-8. UWL made it 11-10 on a Lawrence kill, but Viterbo (Wis.) used a 6-2 run to lead 17-12 on a Frohmader kill. The Eagles cut to 20-17 on a V-Hawks' set error, but UWL could get no closer.
The V-Hawks never trailed in the third set, scoring the first three points. UWL cut the deficit to 12-8, but Viterbo (Wis.) went on a 10-4 run to lead 22-12.
Lawrence led UWL with 13 kills while
Liz Lansink finished with eight.
Abbey Fox had 28 assists as the Eagles hit .196 (33-13-102). Lawrence recorded a double-double with 10 digs. Fox finished with nine digs while
Courtney Conway and
Sophie Quelle each had eight.
UWL had 7.0 team blocks.
Frohmader led Viterbo (Wis.) with 18 kills while hitting .455 (18-3-33). Kenzie Winker finished with 10 kills. Abbey Johnson had 23 assists and Lauryn Sobasky 17 as the V-Hawks hit .288 (50-18-111). Rachel Frankowski had 14 digs.
Viterbo (Wis.) finished with 5.0 team blocks.
UWL returns to action Friday, October 4 hosting 18th-ranked UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
