Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 66-60 victory at UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon on Bo Ryan Court. The Eagles improve to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers fall to 6-15 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
With the win, UWL sweeps the regular-season with UW-Platteville after earning a 75-55 victory January 13 in La Crosse.
The Eagles never trailed in Saturday's win, scoring the first 13 points of the game. UWL made its first four shots from the field, including a pair of three-pointers from
Annie Schumacher. UW-Platteville later cut the lead to 18-14 with 1:34 remaining in the first quarter when UWL scored the final seven points to lead 25-14. UWL led by as many as 14 points in the second quarter at 30-16 before UW-Platteville went on a 12-4 run to end the half and cut the lead to 34-28.
UWL led 38-28 with 7:35 left in the third quarter before UW-Platteville cut the deficit to 40-37 with 3:13 remaining. The Eagles led 47-39 with :58 left on a
Shayla Karge three-point play. UWL led 47-42 at the end of three. The Pioneers forced a pair of ties in the fourth quarter, including 55-55 with 4:53 remaining. A pair of
Ava Kramer free throws with 4:40 left gave UWL a 57-55 lead and after a UW-Platteville turnover,
Dani Craig's three-point play provided a 60-55 lead. The Pioneers cut it to 63-60 with :52 remaining before
Delaney Schoenenberger made two free throws with :24 left for a five-point lead. The Pioneers turned the ball over on their next two possessions.
UWL shot 36.7% from the field, including 25.0% (five-of-20) from three-point range, and 77.3% (17-of-22) at the line. Karge and Craig led the Eagles with 11 points each while Kramer finished with 10.
Elise DeNoyer totaled nine points.
Kylee Marks finished with a game-high eight rebounds.
UW-Platteville shot 38.3% from the field, including 16.7% (two-of-12) from three-point range, and 68.8% (22-of-32) at the line. Allison Prestegaard led the Pioneers with 10 points and seven rebounds. Jai Clemons finished with nine points while Amber Williams totaled eight points.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, February 7 at UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
