Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 76-55 victory at UW-Eau Claire Wednesday night in Zorn Arena. The Eagles improve to 15-7 overall and 8-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blugolds fall to 15-7 overall and 7-4 in the conference. With the UWL win, the teams split its regular-season meetings after UW-Eau Claire earned a 49-47 victory January 3.
The Blugolds led by as many as nine points in the first half at 14-5 with 4:00 left after a Kelsey Bakken layup. The Eagles cut the lead to to 14-10 with :50 left on a
Delaney Schoenenberger jumper. UW-Eau Claire led 17-12 at the end of the first.
UWL took a 26-25 lead with 3:54 remaining in the second quarter on a
Elise DeNoyer jumper and the Eagles ended the half on a 12-2 run to lead 36-27. UWL outscored UW-Eau Claire, 24-10, in the second quarter.
UW-Eau Claire could get no closer than 10 points in the second half Wednesday. The Blugolds cut the lead to 39-29 on a Anna Graaskamp layup before a 14-5 run by the Eagles made it 53-34 with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter. UW-Eau Claire cut the deficit to 55-42 at the end of the third quarter, but UWL used 9-4 run to start the fourth quarter and lead 64-46.
UWL shot a season-high 54.0% from the field, including a season-high 54.5% (12-of-22) from three-point range, and season-high 90.9% (10-of-11) at the line. Schoenenberger led four players in double figures with 18 points for the Eagles while
Ava Kramer finished with 16, DeNoyer 11 and
Taylor Nelson 10.
UW-Eau Claire shot 38.9% from the field, including 15.0% (three-of-20) from three-point range, and 71.4% (10-of-14) at the line. Graaskamp led the Blugolds with 22 points with Bakken finishing with 10.
UWL returns to action Saturday, February 10 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 3 p.m.
