Dubuque, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 77-49 victory at the University of Dubuque (Iowa) Saturday afternoon in Stoltz Sports Center. The Eagles improve to 8-0 on the season while the Spartans drop to 1-7.
UWL is off to best start (8-0) to the season since winning its first 13 games in 2005-60.
The Eagles never trailed in the game Saturday, racing out to a 15-4 lead with 2:58 left in the first quarter on a
Carly Coulthart three-pointer. UWL led, 20-7, at the end of the first quarter after
Emma Gamoke hit a three-point field goal with :05 left. The Eagles took a 34-13 lead with 2:39 remaining in the first half on
Delaney Schoenenberger's three-pointer. UWL led, 37-17, at halftime.
Dubuque (Iowa) cut the lead to 41-28 with 5:33 remaining in the third quarter, but UWL responded with a 9-0 run to lead 50-28. The Ealges led, 57-37, at the end of the third quarter.
UWL shot 41.5% from the field Saturday, including 34.4% (11-of-32) from three-point range, and 46.2% (12-of-26) at the free throw line. Schoenenberger led the Eagles with 21 points while adding seven rebounds.Gamoke had 12 points, five assists and three rebounds off the bench while
Lexie Higgins had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Dubuque (Iowa) shot 29.4% from the field, including 25.0% (five-of-20) from three-point range, and 53.8% (14-of-26) at the line. Kia Dwight led the Spartans with 19 points.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, December 12 at Marian University (Wis.) at 7 p.m.
