UWL Never Trails in Win at Marian; Stays Undefeated

Fond du Lac, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team never trailed in earning an 87-38 victory at Marian University (Wis.) Wednesday night. The Eagles, receiving votes on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, improve to 9-0 on the season while the Sabres fall to 0-8.

UWL now leads the all-time series, 8-0, with Marian (Wis.).

UWL scored seven of the game's first eight points Wednesday night in earning its third road win of the season. Marian (Wis.) cut the lead to 7-3 before UWL went on a 7-0 run to lead 14-3 with 5:25 left in the first quarter. The Sabres trailed 17-8 with 3:58 remaining in the quarter when the Eagles used a 11-1 run to end the quarter to lead, 28-9. Emma Gamoke scored six points in the run.

Rachel Serchen's layup with 8:43 left in the second quarter for Marian (Wis.) cut the deficit to 30-13, but the Sabres would get no closer the rest of the game. UWL scored the next eight points to lead, 38-13 with 5:17 remaining on a Ava Kramer layup. The Eagles led, 53-20, at halftime.

UWL took its largest lead of the game, 87-36, with 1:24 left in the fourth quarter.

UWL shot 44.1% from the field, including 28.0% (seven-of-25) from three-point range, and 71.4% (20-of-28) at the free throw line. Gamoke led three players in double figures with 15 points while Lexie Higgins finished with 12 and Dani Craig with 11. Whittni Rezin finished with eight points and team-high eight rebounds while Jayne Emerson had seven rebounds and Carly Coulthart with six.

The Eagles had 16 assists, 15 steals and 10 blocks.

UWL's 87 points are the most under third-year head coach Karen Middleton and the most since a 88-80 overtime victory at UW-Stout on January 27, 2010, a span of 222 games. The 49-point winning margin is the most since a 48-point victory (64-16) over Marian (Wis.) last season.

Marian (Wis.) shot 23.7% from the field, including 21.4% (three-of-14) from three-point range, and 63.6% (seven-of-11) at the line. Serchen led the Sabres with eight points.

UWL returns to action Friday, December 28 at Chapman University (Calif.) at 6 p.m. (Central).
