Decorah, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team earned a 30-14 victory at Luther College (Iowa) Friday night in Regents Center. The Eagles, ranked 10th on the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top-25 Poll, improve to 4-1 on the season.
Luther (Iowa) took a 4-0 lead on the first match of the night as Connor Murphy won by major decision (14-3) over UWL's
Sawyer Sarbacker at 125-pounds. The Eagles quickly took a 9-4 lead after
Josh Stenger won by fall (4:34) over Tyler DiFlore at 133-pounds and
Hayden Schlough earning a win by decision (8-6) over Kyle Clough at 141-pounds.
The Norse cut the lead to 9-7 at 149-pounds as Gilbert Valadez won by decision (5-4) over
Cal Hansen.
The Eagles took the next three matches, earning wins by technical fall, by fall and by major decision.
Grant Zamin won by technical fall (16-1, 4:52) over Teagan Miller at 157-pounds to give UWL a 14-7 lead.
Jackson Schoen followed with a win by fall (:38) over Tanner Weaver at 165-pounds for a 20-7 advantage and
Sawyer Massie won by major decision (13-3) over Noel Banuelos at 174-pounds to make it 24-7. Massie ranked third in the NWCA.
Luther (Iowa) won the next two matches to cut the lead to 24-14 as Ira Kuehn won by major decision (16-3) over
Donald Frost at 184-pounds and Hunter Weaver by decision (8-6) over
Adam Gusky at 197-pounds.
Konrad Ernst, ranked fourth at 285-pounds, earned a win by fall (2:48) over Logan Kennedy in the final match.
UWL returns to action Saturday, December 8 at the North Central College (Ill.) Invitational.
