La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team went 1-1 Saturday at the 2018 La Crosse Duals in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles, ranked
11th on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top-25 poll, are now 3-1 on the season. UWL defeated #9 Coe College (Iowa), 29-14, in its opening dual before falling to #7 Loras College (Iowa), 22-11.
UWL is now 20-3 all-time in the duals, which started in 2011 and was previously called the Candlewood Suites Duals. Along with Saturday's loss to Coe (Iowa), UWL fell to Wartburg College (Iowa) in 2017 and NCAA Division II St. Cloud State University (Minn.) in 2011. Wartburg (Iowa) and St. Cloud State (Minn.) were both ranked #1 in the NCAA at the time of the match.
Sawyer Massie won a pair of matches Saturday.
Also wrestling in the duals on Saturday was Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks, ranked #16 in the NWCA Top-25 Poll, defeated #9 Loras (Iowa), 20-19, before falling to #7 Coe (Iowa), 26-20.
UWL returns to action Friday, December 7 when they travel to Decorah, Iowa to wrestle Luther College (Iowa) at 7 p.m.
