Pella, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 89-77 at Central College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon in P.H. Kuyper Gym. The Eagles drop to 3-3 on the season while the Dutch improve to 2-5.
UWL took a 19-18 lead with 11:06 remaining in the first half on a
Brendon Manning three-point field goal, but Central (Iowa) used a 12-2 run to take a 30-21 advantage with 6:42 left. A pair of
Ben Meinholz free throws for the Eagles cut the lead to 30-23 before the Dutch went on a 9-2 run to lead 39-25. Central (Iowa) led 46-34 at halftime.
Seth Anderson's layup for UWL with 17:07 remaining in the game cut Central's (Iowa) lead to 50-40, but the Eagles could get no closer the rest of the game. The Dutch scored the next nine points to take their largest lead of the game, 59-40, with 13:58 left.
UWL shot 46.0% from the field, including 35.3% (six-of-17) from three-point range, and 86.7% (13-of-15) at the line.
Ethan Anderson and
Terek Nesheim led the Eagles with 12 points each off the bench while
Sam Burkart added nine points off the bench.
Sam Skoyen and
Ben Meinholz each finished with eight.
Central (Iowa) shot 53.2% from the field, including 35.0% (seven-of-20) from three-point range, and 84.2% (16-of-19) at the line. Jamel McKnight led the Dutch with 26 points and seven assists while Adam Flinn had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Caden Mauck finished with 11 points. Seth Wood had a game-high eight rebounds.
The series between the teams is now tied, 2-2.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, December 5 hosting city-rival Viterbo University (Wis.) at 7 p.m. The game will be an exhibition contest for UWL.
