UW-La Crosse 76, Viterbo (Wis.) 61
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 76-61 win over city-rival Viterbo University (Wis.) Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The game was an exhibition contest for the Eagles with the team remaining at 3-3 on the season. The game did count as a regular-season contest for Viterbo (Wis.) as the V-Hawks drop to 7-4 on the year.
The game was tied, 6-6, when a
Ben Meinholz dunk gave UWL a two-point lead with 15:46 remaining in the first half. The Eagles would never trail the rest of the game. Viterbo (Wis.) cut the lead to 25-21 with 6:40 left, but a 6-0 run gave UWL a 31-21 advantage. The Eagles led, 35-25, at halftime.
Sam Burkart finished with 12 points Wednesday night.
Viterbo (Wis.) cut the deficit to 39-32 with 17:17 remaining on a Jason Tichy three-pointer. UWL used a 10-2 run to lead, 49-34, with 13:40 left after a Meinholz three-pointer. The V-Hawks trailed, 67-59, with 4:14 remaining when the Eagles scored the next nine points to lead, 76-59.
UWL shot 49.2% from the field, including 29.2% (seven-of-24) from three-point range, and 64.3% (nine-of-14) at the free throw line. The Eagles shot 51.9% (14-of-27) from the field in the second half. Meinholz led four players in double figures with 16 points while also recording a team-high six rebounds and six assists. He tied for the team-high with three steals with
Josh Dahlke.
Sam Burkart finished with 12 points while
Sam Skoyen and
Ethan Anderson each scored 11.
Viterbo (Wis.) shot 39.6% from the field, including 37.5% (nine-of-24) from three-point range, and 83.3% (10-of-12) at the line. Tichy led the V-Hawks with 25 points while Cade Anderson finished with 10 points and game-high eight rebounds.
UWL returns to action Saturday, December 8 hosting Buena Vista University (Iowa) at 3 p.m.
