NCAA III Midwest Regional Championship Results
Colfax, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country team placed third at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Midwest Regional Saturday morning at Whitetail Golf Course. With the third-place finish, UWL will await to see if it has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for Saturday, November 17 in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
The at-large bids will be announced Sunday, November 11.
UWL finished with 101 team points Saturday while Washington University (Mo.) won the regional title with 58 points and UW-Eau Claire placed second with 93. With its first and second-place finishes, Washington (Mo.) and UW-Eau Claire earn automatic bids to the national championships.
University of Chicago (Ill.) placed fourth (118 points) Saturday followed by Wheaton College, Ill. (147), UW-Stout (218), UW-Stevens Point (258), North Central College, Ill. (269), UW-Platteville (272) and UW-Oshkosh (306) to round-out the top 10. A total of 36 teams competed.
It marks UWL's 15th top-four finish at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional in the last 19 seasons.
UWL's
Hannah Beilke placed third overall with a time of 21:27.6 on the 6,000-meter course. The Eagles'
Sadie Kroll was fourth (21:45.4) with
Andrea Brekken 27th (22:44.4) and
Ellie Miller 29th (22:47.0). With their top-35 finishes, Beilke, Kroll, Brekken and Miller earn NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region honors. It is the third all-region honor for Kroll and Brekken. Kroll placed 12th in 2017 and 19th in 2016 while Brekken was 34th in 2015 and 2016.
Whitney Ebert finished 38th (23:06.0),
Dakota Holzem 54th (23:24.6) and
Kaylan Marshall 68th (23:40.8) for the Eagles on Saturday.
Hannah Roeske from Wheaton (Ill.) won the individual title (21:21.8). A total of 255 runners completed the course.
The NCAA III Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 17 at Lake Breeze Course in Winneconne, Wisconsin starting at 11 a.m. UWL has recorded 14 top-six finishes at the national championships, including eight in the top-four. The Eagles won the national title in 1983 and placed second in 1982. UWL finished 17th in 2017.
