UWL Earns Eighth Straight Win with Shutout over UW-Whitewater

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 6-0 victory over UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 9-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks drop to 6-7-1 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

The eight-game winning streak is tied for the second longest in history. UWL won eight straight games in 2015 and a school record 16 consecutive in 2017.

The Eagles tallied five goals in the first half, including three on corner kicks. Maya Schmitt scored at 10:30 assisted by Kaitlyn Villars on a corner kick to start the scoring. Margaret Harings made it 2-0 at 20:26 off another Villars' corner kick. Cassie Handrick gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead at 30:30 after a long pass from Alex Cording, who recorded an assist.

UWL got own goal at 40:33 for a 4-0 lead and Heather Baran made it 5-0 at 43:24, assisted by Lauren Yass' corner kick.

The Eagles outshot the Warhawks, 20-2, in the first half.

Hannah Anderson gave UWL an 6-0 lead at 59:58 with an assist from Natalie Herzog.

UWL finished with 30 shots in the game, including 15 on goals. Harings totaled 11 shots with five on goal. She had 10 shots in the first half. Handrick recorded five shots, including four on goal. A total of 12 players recorded a shot for the Eagles.

UW-Whitewater was held to nine shots, including three on goal.

Lily Brock (7-1-1) and Kennedy Brault combined for the shutout for UWL with Brock finishing with one save in the first half and Brault with two in the second half. Nina Yonan (4-7-1) took the loss for UW-Whitewater, finishing with seven saves in the first half. Sara Klimisch had two saves in the second half.

UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 10 hosting UW-Platteville at 7 p.m.
