Five to be Inducted into UW-La Crosse Wall of Fame

La Crosse, Wis. - Five former University of Wisconsin-La Crosse student-athletes will be inducted into the university's Wall of Fame Saturday, October 27.  The five alumni to be inducted include: Josh Chelf (2005-08); Amanda Medendorp (2005-08); Angela Muenkel (1997-99); Kristen Nokleby (1992-95); and Sally Wenzel (2000-03). UWL's Wall of Fame pays tribute to former athletes and coaches for their exceptional ability and enhancement of school tradition.

This year's inductees will be honored with an induction ceremony at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 27, in the Mitchell Hall Gymnasium.  All five inductees will also be honored at halftime of the UWL/UW-Platteville football game Saturday, October 27.

Josh Chelf
Athlete:
2005-08
 
Chelf is second in career wrestling wins at UWL, finishing 153-24.  He earned four career National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America honors, including winning the national title at 174-pounds in 2007 and 2008.  Chelf placed third in 2006 and sixth in 2005 at 174-pounds.
 
Named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) All-Time Team, Chelf won three league championships at 174-pounds (2006, 2007, 2008).  He was named the 2006-07 and 2007-08 WIAC Wrestler of the Year and selected the 2007-08 WIAC Wrestler of the Meet at the league championships.  A member of four conference championship teams (2005-08) at UWL, the Eagles also placed in the top-four at the NCAA III Championships in each of Chelf's four years. The Eagles placed second in 2006 and 2008, third in 2007 and fourth in 2005.
 
He was voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American Second Team in 2008 and was a three-time (2006, 2007, 2008) National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Academic Team choice.
 
Chelf earned his bachelor's (2008) and master's (2010) degrees in physical education teaching.
 
Amanda Medendorp
Athlete:
2005-08
 
Medendorp was named the WIAC Diver of the Meet at the league championships three times in her career (2006, 2007, 2008), one of two in conference history to earn the honor.  She swept the one and three-meter diving titles in those three years in winning six league titles overall.  Named to the WIAC All-Time Team, Medendorp was on two (2005, 2008) teams to win the league title.  She earned WIAC Diver of the Week honors nine times in her career.
 
She earned seven NCAA Division III All-America accolades for the Eagles, including a career-best fourth-place finish in the one-meter competition in 2007.  Medendorp placed fifth (2006), eighth (2008) and 16th (2005) in the one-meter at the national championships.  She also earned three career All-America awards in the three-meter, placing ninth twice (2006, 2007) and 10th (2005). 
 
UWL placed in the top-24 at the NCAA III Championships in Medendorp's four seasons, including 13th in 2008, 15th in 2005, 17th in 2006 and 24th in 2007.  The Eagles won two (2005, 2008) WIAC titles.
 
She earned her bachelor's degree (2009) in physical education teaching.
 
Angela Muenkel

1997-99
 
Muenkel was named to the 1999 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America First Team while also being named the 1999 WIAC Player of the Year.  She was a three-time All-WIAC selection (1997, 1998, 1999) and four-time conference player of the week.  Muenkel was named to the 1997 and 1999 AVCA All-Midwest Region Team and was named the AVCA National Player of the Week during the 1999 season.

UWL competed in the NCAA Division III Championships twice (1997, 1998) in Muenkel's career.

She ranks first in school history in kills (1,684) while recording six of the top-11 single-match kills marks. Muenkel's 645 kills in 1998 are second in single-season school history.  She finished third in UWL history in career attempts (4,112) and fourth in hitting percentage (.299).

Muenkel set a single-season school record for attempts (1,619) in 1998 and also ranks third in single season attempts (1,421) in 1999. She ranks eighth in WIAC history in kills (1,684) and set a league record in attempts (1,619) in 1998.

Muenkel earned her bachelor's degree (2000) in fitness.

Kristen Nokleby

1992-95
 
Nokleby was a WIAC All-Time Team selection after earning four all-league honors (1992, 1993, 1994, 1995).  She is one of two players in UWL history to earn four career All-WIAC awards.  Nokleby was a three-time WIAC Player of the Week choice.

A member of the first collegiate team in school history, Nokleby ranks fourth in school history in career goals (26) and points (63) while ranking 10th in shots (142).

She was UWL's team captain all four years in her career.

Nokleby earned her associates degree (1996) in physical education.

Sally Wenzel
Athlete:
2000-03
 
Wenzel was a four-time All-WIAC softball selection (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003) at UWL while being named the WIAC Pitcher of the Year in 2003.  She is one of three players in school history to earn the WIAC Pitcher of the Year Award.  Wenzel was also a three-time WIAC Pitcher of the Week choice

Named to the 2002 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Third Team All-Region 2003 NFCA Second Team All-Region, Wenzel holds school records for career wins (49), innings (527.0) and strikeouts (432).  She is third in career appearances (87), sixth in saves (4) and earned run average (1.65).

She is the only player in UWL history with two no-hitters, coming versus UW-Superior on April 3, 2000 and St. Olaf College (Minn.) on April 1, 2001.

Wenzel earned her bachelor's degree (2005) in early childhood-middle childhood education.
