UWL Places 10th in Directors' Cup Standings; Best Finish Since 2015-16; Leads WIAC Contingent

Cleveland, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse finished 10th in the final 2024-25 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Standings released Tuesday. The Eagles recorded 856.0 points while Emory University (Ga.) captured the award with 1,198.75 points. 

It is UW-La Crosse's best finish since tying for 10th in 2015-16.

Johns Hopkins University (Md.) placed second this season with 1,147.00 points with Tufts University (Mass.) third with 1,069.00. Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) finished fourth (1,044.75) and Middlebury College (Vt.) fifth (971.75).Logo

Massachusetts Institute of Technology was sixth (943.50) followed by Amherst College (Mass.) seventh (933. 25), New York University eighth (880.50), the University of Chicago (Ill.) ninth (856.50) and UW-La Crosse 10th (856.00). 

UW-La Crosse is the top Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) institution in the standings. UW-Whitewater finished 14th (737.25 points) with UW-Eau Claire 21st (654.75), UW-Oshkosh 28th (562.50), UW-Platteville 59th (331.00), UW-Stout 73rd (280.00), UW-Stevens Point 94th (218.50) and UW-River Falls 101st (194.60). 

UW-La Crosse is one of seven institutions to finish in the top-40 in all 28 years of the LEARFIELD College Directors' Cup, joining Williams (Mass.), Amherst (Mass.), Middlebury (Vt.), Emory (Ga.), Ithaca College (N.Y.), and Washington-St. Louis (Mo.). The award was not presented in 2019-20 or 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 public health threat. 

The Eagles have recorded 25 top-20 finishes in school history. UW-La Crosse has recorded 11 top-10 finishes overall, including a school-best seventh four times (2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07, 2009-10).

UW-La Crosse placed 11th in the 2023-24 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup. 

UW-La Crosse finished with 235.0 points for the spring season, including 100.0 points for the men's track & field team winning the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships and 85.0 points as the women's track & field placed third. The Eagles'  baseball team earned 50.0 points for advancing to the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament.

The Eagles accumulated 238.00 points after the 2024 fall sports season. UW-La Crosse scored 100.0 points for the men's cross country team winning the NCAA Division III title, 63.0 points for women's cross country placing 13th nationally, 50.0 points for the football team advancing to the NCAA III Second Round and 25.0 points for soccer appearing in the national first round. 

UW-La Crosse recorded 383.00 points during the 2024-25 winter season . The Eagles earned 100.0 points for the men's track & field winning the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship, 85.0 points for the women's track & field team placing third at the indoor championships; 75.0 points for the wrestling squad placing fifth at the national championships; 73.0 points for the men's basketball team advancing to the Elite Eight and 50.0 points for the women's basketball team playing in the NCAA III Second Round. 

Overall, 18 sports are counted in the final Division III standings, four of which must be men's and women's soccer and men's and women's basketball. The next highest (14 maximum) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's national finish in NCAA Championships.
