Soccer Team Extends Winning Streak to Thirteen

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team extended its winning streak to 13 with an 8-0 victory over MSOE (Wis.) Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles, tied for 24th on this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, improve to 14-2-1 overall while the Raiders droop to 10-9.

The 13-game winning streak is a school record, breaking the mark of 12 straight last season.

UWL now leads the all-time series, 3-0, with MSOE (Wis.).

Playing on Senior Day, UWL took a 1-0 lead at 4:30 on Kaitlyn Villars goal assisted by Alex Cording. Margaret Harings made it 2-0 at 10:07 off a Villars' corner kick and the Eagles took a 3-0 lead at 12:27 with Cassie Handrick scoring on a Natalie Herzog assist.

The Eagles tallied three goals over nearly a 2:00 stretch. Handrick scored at 16:38 assisted by Herzog for a 4-0 lead followed by a Hannah Beech goal at 18:05 on a Handrick corner kick for a 5-0 lead.  Heather Baran scored at 18:26 off Herzog's third assist of the first half to make it 6-0.  Sophie Amundson gave UWL a 7-0 halftime lead as she scored at 40:44 with an assist from Emma Lehnert

Villars notched her second goal of the game at 63:44 to finish the scoring.

It is the most goals for the Eagles since an 8-0 win at UW-River Falls on October 8, 2016. Herzog's three assists are tied for third in single-game school history. Jennifer Tischaefer had a school record six versus Viterbo University (Wis.) on October 2, 1996.  

UWL totaled 23 shots with 15 on goal while MSOE (Wis.) finished with four shots, including two on goal. Kennedy Brault (2-1) earned the win for UWL, recording two saves. Abbie Lorenz (4-5) took the loss for MSOE (Wis.), finishing with four saves in the first half. Allison Lessila had three saves in the second half for the Raiders.

The Eagles honored this year's senior class, Cording, Handrick, Brault, Harings, Herzog, Megan Carroll, Delaney HarnellOlivia Karegeannes, Mary Mansker and Maya Schmitt prior to Sunday's contest. With Sunday's victory, UWL is 60-16-6 overall and 23-3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) the last four seasons.

UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 24 hosting Carleton College (Minn.) at 6 p.m.
