Box Score La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team extended its winning streak to 14 with a 4-0 win over Carleton College (Minn.) Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Sports Field Complex. The Eagles, ranked 18th on this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll, improve to 15-2-1, while the Knights drop to 5-7-4. UWL now leads the all-time series, 6-5-1, with Carleton (Minn.).
Over their 14-game school win streak, the Eagles have outscored their opponents by a margin of 56-8. UWL, 7-1-1 at home this season, was playing its final regular-season home game of the year.
Natalie Herzog had one goal and one assist.
UWL's first goal came at 29:31 as
Cassie Handrick recorded the assist to
Natalie Herzog for her third goal of the season. The Eagles led 1-0 at halftime.
Alex Cording would extend that lead at 48:47 off an assist from
Delaney Harnell with Cording getting her fifth goal the season. Handrick scored at 68:42 from a Herzog assist to make it 3-0, and Handrick scored again at 77:39 on a penalty kick. She now has 14 goals on the season, which ranks fifth in single-season school history.
Jennifer Tischaefer scored a school record 19 goals in 1997 and 1999.
UWL finished the game with 32 shots, 18 on goal. Herzog led all players with eight shots, seven of which were on goal.
Carleton (Minn.) had 11 shots, five on goal. Nora Mertz finished with four shots, two on goal.
Lily Brock (12-1-1) earned the shutout win for UWL, recording five saves. Anna Roether (4-5-4) took the loss for Carleton (Minn.), finishing the game with 14 saves.
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 27 at the UW-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. The winner of the day will clinch the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular-season title. The Eagles enter the game with 18 points based off their 6-0 league mark while the Pointers have 16 points with a 5-0-1 conference record.
