Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 57-51 victory at third-ranked UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles improve to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans fall to 10-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference. UWL snaps a six-game losing streak to UW-Oshkosh with the win. The Titans entered the game ranked third on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll.
UWL never trailed in the game Saturday, scoring the first six points UW-Oshkosh came back to score the next five points to trail 6-5 with 6:40 left in the first quarter. The Eagles used an 12-4 run to lead 18-9 with 2:16 remaining on a
Dani Craig three-point field goal. UWL led 20-9 at the end of the first quarter.
UW-Oshkosh opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 22-18 with 6:46 left after Eliza Campbell's layup.
Ava Kramer's layup and
Delaney Schoenenberger's three-pointer gave UWL a 27-18 advantage with 5:25 left in the first half. The Eagles led 29-25 at halftime.
The Titans cut the deficit to 35-33 with 4:07 left in the third quarter on a pair of Isabella Samuels free throws, but
Elise DeNoyer's three-point play and Kramer's layup provided a 40-35 lead for the Eagles. UWL led 41-36 after three quarters.
UWL went on an 7-2 run to start the fourth quarter for a 48-38 advantage with 6:14 remaining. UW-Oshkosh later cut the lead to 50-48 with :36 left on a Campbell layup as the teams combined to go three-for-10 from the field and commit five turnovers. DeNoyer made two free throws with :29 remaining for a 52-48 lead and after UW-Oshkosh missed two free throws and a layup, Kramer hit two free throws with :11 left to make it 54-48.

UWL shot 43.2% from the field, including 54.2% (13-of-24) in the first half. The Eagles shot 33.3% (six-of-18) from three-point range for the game and 86.7% (13-of-15) at the free throw line. All 15 free throw attempts came in the second half. Craig and DeNoyer led UWL with 13 points while Kramer finished with 12 points. DeNoyer had a team-high eight rebounds.Â
UW-Oshkosh shot 38.2% from the field, including 21.4% (three-of-14) from three-point range, and 54.5% (six-of-11) at the line. Samuels led the Titans with 14 points and sevn rebounds while Melanie Schneider finished with 10 points.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, January 10 hosting UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
