UW-La Crosse Earns Home Win Over UW-Stevens Point

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 51-36 victory over UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  UWL improves to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while UW-Stevens Point falls to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference. 

UWL and UW-Stevens Point battled to five ties and five lead changes in the first half, with the Eagles leading 8-7 after the first quarter, and the teams tied at 20-20 at halftime.

UWL opened the third quarter on a 13-4 run to lead 33-24 after an Elise DeNoyer layup with 5:35 remaining in the period.  The Eagles were ahead 36-30 going to the fourth quarter, and outscored the Pointers 15-6 in the final period to cap the 51-36 victory.

Delaney Schoenenberger scored 15 of her 16 points in the second half Wednesday.
UWL shot 33.3% from the field, including 35.7% (10-of-28) from three-point range and 75.0% (three-of-four) at the free throw line.  The 10 three-pointers were a season high for the Eagles. UWL had a season-low 11 turnovers in the contest.

Dani Craig scored a season-high 19 points with Delaney Schoenenberger adding 16 points, 15 in the second half.  Both players had five three-point field goals in the game with Craig finishing five-of-11 and Schoenenberger going five-of-nine.

DeNoyer, Annie Schumacher, and Kimmy Johnson led UWL with six rebounds each.  Schumacher had a team-high four assists. 

UW-Stevens Point shot 26.1% (12-of-46) from the field, including 0-of-13 from three-point range.  The Pointers were 92.3% (12-of-13) from the free throw line.  Taylor Barrett had a team-high 16 points for UW-Stevens Point, also grabbing six rebounds. 

UWL returns to action Saturday, January 13 hosting UW-Platteville at 3 p.m.
