Three in Double Figures Leads to Victory over UW-River Falls

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 56-44 victory over UW-River Falls Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 13-7 overall and 6-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons fall to 14-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference. UW-River Falls is receiving votes on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll. 

UWL improved to 9-1 at home with the win.

UWL led throughout the first quarter, racing out to a 7-2 lead. Dani Craig made a pair of three-pointers to start the game for the Eagles. UWL led 9-5 after the first quarter. The Eagles led 13-5 with 8:43 left in the second quarter when the Falcons used a 15-4 run to lead 20-17 with 1:59 left on Brynn Liljander's three-pointer. It was UW-River Falls' first lead of the game. Annie Schumacher's three-point field goal with 1:33 remaining tied the game before Liljander made another three with 1:16 left to give the Falcons a 23-20 halftime advantage.

Ava Kramer finished with a team-high 12 points Wednesday night.


UW-River Falls led 25-23 on a Taylor Karge jumper before UWL went on a 17-5 run to lead 40-30 with 1:53 remaining. The Eagles led 42-32 at the end of the third quarter, outscoring the Falcons, 22-9. UW-River Falls could get no closer than 12 points in the final quarter.

UWL shot 29.8% from the field, including 33.3% (nine-of-27) from three-point range, and 65.0% (13-of-20) at the free throw line. Ava Kramer led the Eagles with 12 points while Elise DeNoyer and Delaney Schoenenberger each finished with 10. Craig had nine points while Kylee Marks had a team-high 10 rebounds.

UWL forced 21 turnovers and outrebounded UW-River Falls, 44-30. 

UW-River Falls shot 37.2% from the field, including 33.3% (six-of-18) from three-point range, and 54.5% (six-of-11) at the line. Liljander led the Falcons with 16 points and seven rebounds. 

UWL returns to action Saturday, February 3 at UW-Platteville at 3 p.m.
