Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 73-54 at UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon in Berg Gym. The Eagles drop to 12-7 overall and 5-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers improve to 9-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
UWL raced out to an 7-2 lead with 7:42 remaining in the first quarter after
Dani Craig's three-point field goal. UW-Stevens Point then went on a 18-2 run to 20-9 with 2:44 left. The Pointers led 23-13 at the end of the first quarter. UW-Stevens Point led by as many 18 points in the second quarter before taking a 38-20 lead at halftime.
The Pointers took their largest lead of the game, 51-28, with 2:42 left in the third quarter. UW-Stevens Point led 58-37 after three quarters. UWL cut the deficit to 61-47 with 6:56 remaining in the game, but could get no closer the rest of the way.
UWL shot 33.9% from the field, including 27.8% (five-of-18) from three-point range, and 73.3% (11-of-15) at the free throw line.
Delaney Schoenenberger led the Eagles with 13 points while
Ava Kramer finished with 12 and
Elise DeNoyer with 11.
Kylee Marks led UWL with five rebounds.
UW-Stevens Point shot 46.7% from the field, including 23.1% (three-of-13) from three-point range, and 82.4% (28-of-34) at the line. The Pointers were 19-of-22 (86.4%) at the line in the second half. Taylor Barrett led UW-Stevens Point with 16 points while Lexi Roland finished with 12 and Mickey Roland with 10. Barrett and Lexi Roland had a game-high eight rebounds.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, January 31 hosting UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
