Box Score Auburndale, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team earned a 5-3 victory over Ramapo College (N.J.) Thursday afternoon in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Eagles, ranked eighth on this week's D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll, improves to 4-3 on the season while the Roadrunners, ranked 17th on D3baseball.com, drops to 2-4.
UWL took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the first Thursday.
Alex Robson and
Alex Barnard had back-to-back RBI singles to make it 2-0 followed by an RBI double from
Brady Stolzman for a 3-0 advantage.
Ramapo (N.J.) cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third before each team scored a run in the sixth inning. The Eagles made it 4-2 when
Sam Prissel scored on a Roadrunners' throwing error. Ramapo (N.J.) came right back in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-3 with a run scoring on a wild pitch.
UWL added a run in the top of the ninth with
Nate Roethle scoring on
JJ Belknapp's two-out single.
Mason McMahon (1-0) earned the win for UWL, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing eight hits, two runs and three walks while striking out four.
Caleb Willems picked up his second save, going 1.2 innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.
Brock Rude pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing one hit and one run while striking out one.
The Eagles totaled 10 hits with
Joel Zyhowski finishing 2-for-4 with one run and two stolen bases. Eight different players had one hit on the day.
UWL returns to action Friday, March 17 facing the University of Southern Maine at 12:30 p.m. (Central) in Winter Haven, Florida. Southern Maine is receiving votes on this week's D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll. UWL and Southern Maine will also play a junior varsity game at 4 p.m.
