Miller Scores 1,000th Career Point in Win at UW-Stout

Box Score Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 72-50 win at UW-Stout Wednesday night in Johnson Fieldhouse.  The Eagles improve to 14-10 overall and 8-5 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils fall to 7-17 overall and 3-10 in the conference.  With the victory, UWL clinches a winning season under first-year head coach Karen Middleton.  The Eagles also clinched a WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) home game with Wednesday's win. 

UW-Stout led 6-2 when UWL used a 12-0 run to lead 14-6 with 3:29 remaining in the first quarter on a MaKenzie Miller layup. The Eagles led 18-8 at the end of the first quarter.  UWL led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter before leading 34-24 at halftime. 

The Blue Devils cut the lead to 38-33 with 5:36 left in the third quarter when the Eagles used a 7-0 run to lead 45-33 with 3:07 remaining.  UWL led 47-38 after three quarters and started the fourth quarter on a 11-6 run to lead 58-44 with 6:44 remaining after an Elise DeNoyer three-pointer.  UW-Stout could get no closer than 12 points the rest of the game. UWL outscored UW-Stout, 25-12, in the fourth quarter.

Elise DeNoyer finished with 19 points, six rebounds and four steals.


UWL shot 45.8% from the field, including 41.7% (five-of-seven) from three-point range, and 92.9% (13-of-14) at the free throw line. The Eagles shot 54.2% (13-of-24) from the field in the first half. 

Miller led UWL with 26 points, finishing 10-of-19 from the field and six-of-six at the line. She became the 16th player in school history to score 1,000 career points with her 26 Wednesday night. Miller has 1,004 points in her four-year career and is the first player to reach 1,000 career points since Mackenzie Hunter (1,526 points) in 2009. 

DeNoyer finished with 19 points, six rebounds and four steals Wednesday while Delaney Schoenenberger totaled 13 points off the bench. 

UW-Stout shot 32.1% from the field, including 21.1% (four-of-19) from three-point range, and 76.9% (10-of-13) at the line.  Jenna Goldsmith led the Blue Devils with 12 points while Kyncaide Diedrich finished with 11 points and Anna Brown with 10.  

UWL returns to action Saturday, February 18 hosting UW-Stevens Point at 3 p.m. on Senior Day.
