UW-La Crosse 34, Luther College (Iowa) 4
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team earned a 34-4 dual victory over Luther College (Iowa) in the Bluffs Room of the Student Union. The Eagles, ranked 17th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NCWA) Division III poll, move to 4-1 on the season while the Norse fall to 0-2.
UWL now leads the all-time series, 34-16-1, with Luther (Iowa), and has won the last three meetings.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead Friday as
Zach Villarreal opened the dual with a 10-6 decision over Connor Murphy at 125-pounds.
The Norse took the lead 4-3 after Sam Camacho defeated UWL's
Quinn Miracle by major decision (13-2) at 133-pounds.
UWL's
Reid Johnson (141-pounds) and
Spencer Nevills (149) won their matchups by decision, with Johnson defeating Tyler Menegay (4-3) and Nevills shutting out Gilbert Valadez (4-0), to put UWL ahead 9-4.
Michael Murnane won by forfeit at 157-pounds, before
Mitch Hertel took an 8-3 decision over Billy Poray of Luther (Iowa) at 165, and the Eagles were ahead 18-4.
A major decision (19-4) from
Sawyer Massie over Jamal Vaughns at 174-pounds, followed by a decision (5-1) at 184 from
Sean O'Neil over Ira Kuehn increased the lead to 25-4.
UWL's
Wesley Schultz won by fall (3:57) over Luther's (Iowa) Hunter Weaver at 197-pounds, and the Eagles'
Konrad Ernst took the 285-pound match by decision (7-0) over Dakota Daffinson to make the final score 34-4.
UWL returns to action Saturday, December 9 at the North Central College (Ill.) Invitational starting at 9 a.m.
