La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 60-30 win over Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 5-2 on the season while the Vikings suffer its first loss of the season, falling to 5-1.
UWL now leads the all-time series 3-0, including a 65-48 victory in Mankato last season.
The Eagles briefly trailed in the first quarter to Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) 4-3 with 8:33 left, but the Vikings went 10:59 of game play without a point. UWL led 8-6 at the end of the first, and 23-9 at the half. The Eagles outscored Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) 15-3 in the second quarter.
In the second half, Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) got no closer than 15 points, and UWL cruised to the 60-30 win.
UWL shot 29.9% from the field, including 19.4% (six-of-31) from three-point range, and 80.0% (eight-of-ten) at the free throw line.
Delaney Schoenenberger led the Eagles with a season-high 22 points coming off the bench, while
Kylee Marks had 11 rebounds, a career-high, to lead UWL.
Sydney Kannel and
Ava Kramer had three assists each, while
Shayla Karge and
Jayne Emerson recorded a pair of blocks.
Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) shot 15.8% from the field, including 6.7% (one-of-15) from three-point range, and 52.4% (11-of-21) at the line. Hanna Geistfeld led the Vikings with eight points and nine rebounds, and Haley Sandin added six points and seven boards.
UWL returns to action Saturday, December 9 hosting the University of Dubuque (Iowa) at 3 p.m.
