UWL Extends Win Streak to Seven with Victory at UW-Eau Claire

Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked 21st on the United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Poll, earned a 3-1 win at UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 12-1-2 overall and 5-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). UWL remains in firs-place in the conference with its seventh straight win overall. UW-Eau Claire drops to 4-8-1 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC.

UWL's 12 victories are tied for fourth-most in single-season school history. The Eagles won a school record 14 games last season. UWL's current seven-game winning streak is tied for the second-longest in school history. The team won eight consecutive games from September 20 through October 17, 2015.

All of the scoring happened in the first half Saturday. Margaret Harings gave UWL a 1-0 lead at 2:25 assisted by Kaitlyn Villars. The Eagles made it 2-0 with Cassie Handrick scoring at 17:48 with Mary Mansker recording the assist. 

Harings notched her second goal of the game at 20:07 to give UWL a 3-0 advantage. UW-Eau Claire cut the lead to 3-1 at 31:35 with an unassisted goal.

UWL finished with 20 shots in the game, including 11 on goal. The Eagles outshot the Blugolds, 12-4 in the first half and 8-1 in the second half. Handrick led UWL with five shots while Harings finished with four.  Harings had a team-leading three shots on goal while Handrick, Natalie Herzog and Hannah Anderson each finished with two.

UW-Eau Claire totaled five shots with three on goal.

Lily Brock recorded the shutout for UWL, finishing with two saves. Anna Sveiven had eight saves for UW-Eau Claire.

UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 18 at Carleton College (Minn.) at 3:30 p.m.
