Box Score Decorah, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 (22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-12) victory at Luther College (Iowa) Wednesday night in the Regents Center. The Eagles improve to 5-0 on the season while the Norse drop to 2-3.
It marks the first time since 2007 that UWL has won its first five matches to start a season. The Eagles won their first 11 matches in 2007 and went on to finish 24-10 on the season.
Jill Entinger led UWL with 18 kills Wednesday night, hitting .548 (18 kills, one error, 31 attempts).
Stephanie Henk finished with 15 kills while
Jessica Jablonski recorded 13 kills with zero hitting errors in 20 attempts for .650 hitting percentage.
UWL, receiving votes on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll, hit .319 as a team (61-16-141), including .409 (10-1-22) in the fourth set and .391 (9-0-23) in the fifth and deciding set.
Maddie Entinger led the Eagles with 51 assists while
Halle Barnabo had a team-leading 18 digs.
Marisa Johnson added 13 digs while Henk finished with 12 and
Paige Schmidt 10. UWL had 8.0 team blocks.
Jamie Sindlinger led Luther (Iowa) with 14 kills while Anna Larson finished with 11. The Norse hit .187 (49-23-139). Sam Sixta had a team-high 32 assists while Taylor Gaide recorded 22 digs. Luther (Iowa) finished with 10.0 team blocks.
UWL returns to action Friday, September 9 at the Augsburg College (Minn.) Invitational. The Eagles face the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at 3 p.m. and host Augsburg (Minn.) at 5 p.m.
