WIAC Indoor Championship Results
Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's indoor track & field team captured its fourth consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) Saturday in UW-Oshkosh's Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles earned their 24th league title in school history and 14th in the last 17 seasons. UWL finished with 162.0 points Saturday to win the WIAC title while UW-Eau Claire was second with 104.5 and UW-Stout third with 103.0.
UW-Oshkosh placed fourth (93.5) followed by UW-Stevens Point (80.0), UW-Platteville (58.0), UW-Whitewater (50.5) and UW-River Falls (11.5).
Meg Heafy won a pair of titles Saturday, capturing the 60 and 200-meter dash. She won the 60-meter dash with a meet and facility record time of 7.67. Heafy broke the WIAC record of 7.72 set by UWL's
Jaime Ludwigson in 2014 and the Kolf Sports Center record of 7.68 set by Jenna Moody of the University of St. Francis (Ind.) in 2015. Heafy won the 200-meter dash with a facility record time of 24.86, breaking the mark of 25.33 of Nadine Pieske of UW-Oshkosh set in 2007.
Heafy is the second student-athlete in school history to win the 60 and 200-meter dash at the same championships, joining Angela Klatt who won both events in 2003 and 2004.
Claire Gordee captured the 60-meter hurdles title Saturday with a WIAC Championship record time of 8.66, breaking her own record of 8.71 set last season. Gordee also broke the Kolf Sports Center record of 8.73 set by UW-Oshkosh's Taylor Sherry earlier this season. It is Gordee's second straight 60-meter hurdles title.
The Eagles'
Rachel Atchison finished second (2:13.95) in the 800-meter run while
Valerie Jones was fifth (2:18.93) and
Madeline Brunner seventh (2:19.40).
Kaitlyn McDaniel, who won the 5,000-meter run title Friday, placed second (10:20.71) in Saturday's 3,000-meter run. Mackenzie Keller-Miller was 10th (10:29.02) in the 3,000-meter run.
UWL's
Courtney Purcell was sixth in the 60 (7.87) and 200 (26.00) meter dash Saturday while
Jenna Franzwa was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.06).
The 4x400-meter relay of
Bria Halama,
Jenna Goulet,
Mallory Hall and Gordee placed second (3:53.74) Saturday.
The Eagles'
Shelby Graham placed second in the pentathlon (3,158 points) while
Caycee Bean finished fifth (2,981) and
Belle Matos eighth (2,869).
Halama placed second (38-7 1/2) in the triple jump Saturday while
Betsy Schreier was sixth (36-10 1/2) and
Marissa Wustrack seventh (36-9 1/2). In the weight throw,
Kendra Antony recorded a fifth-place finish (55-3) with
Autumn Miller ninth (50-5 1/2).
Halama was selected the WIAC Judy Kruckman Women's Scholar-Athlete at the conclusion of the meet.
