Box Score St. Paul, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 81-45 at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) Monday night at Schoenecker Arena. The Eagles drop to 5-3 on the season while the Tommies, ranked fifth in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, improved to 8-0.
UWL falls to 3-4 all-time versus St. Thomas (Minn.), with the last meeting between schools coming in the 1999-2000 season.
St. Thomas (Minn.) never trailed in Monday's game, outscoring UWL 25-5 in the first quarter to take control of the game. In the second quarter,
Elise DeNoyer and
Annie Schumacher had five points each for the Eagles, but the Tommies grew the lead to 44-17 going to the half.
St. Thomas (Minn.) kept control throughout the third and fourth quarters, and a pair of free throws with 1:02 left to play gave the Tommies its biggest lead of the night and the final margin of 81-45.
UWL shot 22.8% from the field, including 25.0% (four-of-16) from three-point range, and 75.0% (15-of-20) at the free throw line. Schumacher led the Eagles with nine points with
Kylee Marks adding eight.
MaKenzie Miller added six points and led the team with six rebounds.
St. Thomas (Minn.) shot 54.5% from the field, including 46.2% (12-of-26) from three-point range, and 69.2% (nine-of-13) at the line. Gabby Zehrer led all scorers with 21 points. Kaitlin Langer added 14 points and nine rebounds, while Maddie Wolkow led the team with five assists.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, December 14 at the University of Dubuque (Iowa) at 6 p.m.
