Box Score River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 95-64 to UW-River Falls Wednesday night in the Karges Center. The Eagles drop to 6-12 overall and 0-7 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons, ranked 18
th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, improve to 15-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
The Eagles grabbed an early 4-0 lead after a pair of
MaKenzie Miller free throws at the 8:43 mark in the first, but the Falcons went on a 18-2 run capped by a Brynn Liljander three pointer to make it 18-6 with 4:19 left. UW-River Falls again led by 12 before a
Sierra Watrud three cut it to 22-13 with 1:52 left. The Falcons led 24-15 after one.
In the second, the lead ballooned to as many as thirty points as the Eagles were outscored 29-10 in the period, including a 16-2 run to start the quarter. UW-River Falls led 53-25 at halftime.
UWL was able to score in the third and fourth quarters, but was unable to keep UW-River Falls in check. Seven different Eagles had points in the third, but the Falcons still led 76-44 going into the fourth.
UWL outscored the UW-River Falls 20-19 in the final period, and scored 23 points off the bench in the second half, including six points from
Kara Selk.
UWL shot 35.9% (23-of-64) from the field, were 25% (three-of-12) from three point range, and 62.5% (15-of-24) from the free throw line.
Elise DeNoyer led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points while Miller grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Maggi Bishop added three assists.
UW-River Falls shot 50.0% from the field, including 43.8% (seven-of-16) from three-point range, and 73.7% (14-of-19) at the line. All five Falcon starters scored in double figures Wednesday night, led by Liljander with 21 points. Taylor Karge had six rebounds and a pair of blocks while Richell Mehus had five assists.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 30 hosting UW-Platteville at 3 p.m.
