Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 55-48 to UW-Stevens Point Saturday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles drop to 6-11 overall and 0-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers, ranked 19
th on D3hoops.com, improve to 14-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
UWL trailed by as many as four points in the first quarter, but ended the period on a 7-2 run to lead 11-10.
MaKenzie Miller scored the last two baskets of the period to give the Eagles the lead.
In the second, a
Jenna Anderson layup made it 19-18 in favor of UW-Stevens Point with 3:35 remaining. The Pointers went on a 10-0 run to end the half, capped by a Mickey Roland three pointer as time expired, and UW-Stevens Point led 29-18 at the break.
UWL was able to cut the lead to three points with 3:11 left in the third after a
Maggi Bishop layup made it 33-30. Both teams traded baskets to end the quarter, and the Pointers went into the fourth quarter leading 37-34.
UW-Stevens Point led by as many as seven points midway through the fourth, but UWL cut the lead to three at 47-44 with 1:17 left after an Anderson jumper. The Pointers closed the game going eight-of-eight from the free throw line in the final minute, and held on for the 55-48 win.
UWL shot 50.0% (19-of-38) from the field, were 25% (one-of-four) from three point range, and 64.3% (nine-of-14) from the free throw line. Miller had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Eagles. Bishop scored 11 with five boards while Anderson added eight points, three steals, and two assists.
UW-Stevens Point shot 40.5% from the field, including 27.3% (three-of-11) from three-point range, and 81.8% (18-of-22) at the line. Mickey Roland led the Pointers with 19 points, adding seven rebounds and five steals. Allie Miceli and Lauren Anklam added ten points each.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, January 27 at UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
