Box Score 2 Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team split a pair of matches against nationally-ranked opponents at the Augsburg College (Minn.) Invitational Friday. The Eagles opened play a with a 3-2 (16-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-13, 20-18) victory over 20th-ranked the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) before falling 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 13-15) to 25th-ranked Augsburg (Minn.). St. Thomas (Minn.) is ranked 20th and Augburg (Minn.) 25th in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Top-25 Poll.
Versus St. Thomas (Minn.),
Stephanie Henk led four UWL players in double figures in kills with while hitting .350 (17-3-40).
Leah Putzier finished with 16 kills for the Eagles while
Jill Entinger recorded 15 and
Ashley Entinger 13.
Jill Entinger hit .361 (15-2-36) for the match while
Ashley Entinger finished at .345 (13-3-29). UWL hit .247 (72-26-186) as a team, including .351 (17-4-37) in the third set and .516 (18-2-31) in the fourth. The team hit .263 (14-4-38) in fifth and deciding set.
Jaclyn Barrette led UWL with 61 assists versus St. Thomas (Minn.).
Danica Johnson led five UWL players in double figures in digs with 19 while Henk recorded 18.
Paige Schmidt finished with 15 digs while Barrette recording 12 and Putzier 11.
The Eagles had 9.0 team blocks as Barrette and
Jessica Jablonski each had five block assists.
Against Augsburg (Minn.), Putzier had a team-high 15 kills with
Jill Entinger and
Ashley Entinger each finishing with 13. Henk recorded 12 kills as UWL hit .201 (60-25-174).
Barrette finished with 52 assists, 18 digs and six blocks assists. Johnson led UWL with 22 digs while Putzier added 13.
The Eagles totaled 12.0 blocks with Jablonski recording nine block assists.
"Today was a really fun day to be a UWL volleyball coach," said head coach
Lily Hallock. "We had two exciting matches against ranked opponents that showcased what this team is capable of doing. I'm proud of not only how the team fought today, but also the hard work they've been putting in over the last several weeks. We have two more challenging matches
tomorrow that I'm looking forward to."
UWL returns to action Saturday, September 12 at the Augsburg (Minn.) Invitational with two matches. The Eagles face the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 11 a.m. and the University of Minnesota-Morris at 1 p.m.
