#4 UW-La Crosse 35, UW-Stevens Point 9La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team, ranked fourth on the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Poll, earned a 35-9 victory over UW-Stevens Point Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 16-4 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers drop to 6-10 overall and 3-2 in the conference. UW-L earned its 13th straight dual win over UW-Stevens Point with Friday's victory.
UW-Stevens Point took a 3-0 lead as Ben Vosters won by decision (7-6) over UW-L's
Ryan Weinmann at 125-pounds. The Eagles took the next three duals to lead 14-3.
Dustin Weinmann, ranked 10th in the NWCA at 133-pounds, earned a win by major decision (13-1) over Michael Bannach to give UW-L a 4-3 advantage. The Eagles'
Cody See won by forfeit at 141 for a 10-3 lead and
Kasey Einerson, ranked fourth in the country at 149-pounds, won by major decision (19-6) over Austin Worachek to give UW-L a 14-3 lead.
The Pointers' Anthony Friese cut the lead to 14-9 as he won by fall (2:02) over the Eagles'
Derek Weinmann.
UW-L took the last five matches to earn the dual win.
Tyler Schneider and
Jarret Hoeppner recorded back-to-back wins by decision to give the Eagles a 20-9 lead. Schneider, ranked seventh at 165-pounds, won by decision (3-1) over Logan Hermsen while Hoeppner earned the win by decision (3-2) over Dylan Diebitz at 174.
Fifth-ranked
Richard Carlson followed with a win by major decision (10-2) over Cody Nielsen at 184-pounds to make it 24-9. The Eagles'
Eric Twohey, ranked fifth at 197, won by technical fall (19-4, 4:34) over Kane Seubert and
Zach Tooley completed the dual victory with a win by fall (4:17) over Jordan Koranda.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, February 7 at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational at 9 a.m.
