Women's Basketball Team Earns Win in Season Finale

Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 66-62 victory over UW-Platteville in its season finale Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles wrap up their season at 11-14 overall and 6-10 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers drop to 14-10 overall and 7-8 in the conference. UW-Platteville ends its regular season Saturday, February 21 hosting UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.

UW-Platteville led by as many as six points in the first half at 20-14 with 11:07 remaining, but UW-L went on a 7-1 run to force a 21-21 tie with 9:05 left after a Rachel Atchison three-pointer. The game was later tied 27-27 with 5:03 left in the first half when the Pioneers ended the half on a 9-2 run to lead 36-29.

The Pioneers took a 39-34 advantage with 16:48 left on an Alyssa Krajco free throw before the Eagles scored the next five points on an Elise DeNoyer layup, Cameron Chapin free throw and Chapin layup.  UW-Platteville took a 45-43 lead on a Taylor Buckmaster layup with 13:58 remaining, but UW-L used a 9-0 run to take a 52-45 lead with 10:08 left.

The Pioneers regained the lead at 58-56 with 3:56 remaining on a Stacy Clark layup, but the Eagles scored the next seven points to lead 63-58.  MaKenzie Miller tied the game on a jumper with 3:38 left and Maggi Bishop's free throw with 2:55 remaining gave UW-L a 59-58 advantage.  After a missed Krajco jumper, Jenna Anderson's jumper gave the Eagles a three-point lead with 2:13 left. UW-Platteville could get no closer than the final margin of four points. 

UW-L shot 40.0% from the field, including 33.3% (three-of-nine) from three-point range, and 53.6% (15-of-28) at the free throw line.  Miller and Bishop each recorded a double-double for the second straight contest as Miller finished with a game-high 19 points and 13 rebounds and Bishop totaled 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Atchison finished with 16 points for the Eagles. 

UW-Platteville shot 32.9% from the field, including 50.0% (eight-of-16) from three-point range, and 57.1% (eight-of-14) at the line. Clark and MyKaela Brandt led the Pioneers with 15 points each while Krajco finished with 12. Krajco entered the game leading the WIAC in scoring at 18 points per game.  Krajco and Morgan Hartman led UW-Platteville with seven rebounds each.
