Eagles Fall to Blugolds in WIAC Contest

Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 66-46 at UW-Eau Claire Saturday night in Zorn Arena. The Eagles drop to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blugolds improve to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference. 

The Eagles got out to an early lead in the first half.  Rachel Atchison was fouled after making a lay-up :51 into the game, and completed the three-point play.  Elise DeNoyer made a lay-up at the 18:47 mark to make it 5-0 before the Blugolds got on the board with a three-pointer by Teenie Lichtfuss with 17:52 left.  Another Lichtfuss three tied the game at 9-9 with 16:44 remaining.  UW-Eau Claire led by as many as seven in the half at 22-15 after a Madison Johnson jumper with 8:27 to go, but UW-L was able to keep it close and trailed 32-27 at the half.
 
In the second half, the Eagles were able to cut the lead to 34-31 with 16:28 remaining after an Atchison lay-up, but the Blugolds would extend it to double-digits at 46-35 with 12:09 left in the contest after a pair of free throws by Jamie Swanson.  A Cameron Chapin lay-up made it 46-37 at the 11:58 mark of the half, but the Eagles were outscored 20-9 the rest of the way.
 
UW-L shot 25.8% from the field and were 0-of-13 from three-point range.  The Eagles shot 73.7% (14-of-19) from the free throw line.

DeNoyer had with a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds for UW-L.  Atchison added 11 points and eight rebounds.  Both players finished with three steals.  Jenna Anderson had six assists for the Eagles. 

UW-Eau Claire shot 44.2% from the field, including 50.0% (nine-of-18) from three-point range, and 68.8% (11-of-16) at the line.

Courtney Lewis led UW-Eau Claire with 17 points.  Abby Midtlien had 12 and Licthfuss added 10.  Rachel Egdorf had nine rebounds for the Blugolds. 

UW-L returns to action Saturday, December 10 hosting UW-Superior at 3 p.m.
