Box Score River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 83-72 at UW-River Falls Saturday afternoon in the Karges Center. The Eagles drop to 7-11 overall and 2-7 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons improve to 8-10 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
The game was tied four times in the first half, including 20-20 with 7:05 remaining. UW-River Falls took its largest lead of five at 25-20 after Taylor Karge's three-point field goal and a pair of free throws by Ali Clark. The Falcons led 32-29 at halftime.
UW-L trailed 39-36 with 16:32 left on a
Maggi Bishop jumper when UW-River Falls used a 10-2 run to lead 49-38 with 14:01 remaining. The Eagles went on a 10-5 run to cut the deficit to 54-48 with 9:35 left, but UW-L could get no closer the rest of the game.
UW-River Falls went on a 12-3 run to lead 66-51 with 6:39 left. The Falcons had their largest lead of the game at 73-55 with 4:29 remaining when the Eagles responded with a 15-3 run to cut the lead to 76-70 with 1:31 left. UW-River Falls ended the game scoring seven of the last nine points.
UW-L shot 40.0% from the field, including 15.4% (two-of-13) from three-point range, and 66.7% (18-of-27) at the free throw line. Bishop led the Eagles with 13 points while
Cameron Chapin finished with 12 points and
MaKenzie Miller with 11. Miller also had a team-high seven rebounds.
Rachel Atchison totaled nine points and six rebounds while
Jenna Anderson and
Mikayla Simmons each finished with eight points. Anderson added four steals and three assists.
UW-River Falls shot 45.3% from the field, including 52.4% (11-of-21) from three-point range, and 70.6% (24-of-34) at the line. The Falcons shot 55.6% (15-of-27) from the field in the second half, including 63.6% (seven-of-11) from three-point range. Karge led UW-River Falls with 26 points Saturday while Richell Mehus finished with 14 points and game-high nine rebounds and seven assists. Clark scored 11 points with Cassy Saxton adding 10.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, January 28 at UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
