Box Score Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 70-57 at UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon in Kachel Gymnasium. The Eagles drop to 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks improve to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
The game was tied 11-11 with 14:16 remaining in the first half when UW-Whitewater scored the next seven points to lead 18-11. UW-L responded scoring the next six points on back-to-back three-point field goals from
Rachel Atchison. The Warhawks later led 24-21 with 846 remaining when they scored five straight points for a 29-21 advantage with 7:36 left.
UW-L came back to cut the deficit to 35-31 at halftime.
The Eagles forced a 37-37 tie with 16:44 left on a
MaKenzie Miller jumper, but the Warhawks' Maddie Bare hit a three-point field goal for a 40-37 lead and UW-Whitewater would never trail again.
Cameron Chapin's three-point play tied the game for UW-L at 48-48 with 9:34 remaining before Abbie Reeves connected on a three-pointer for UW-Whitewater with 9:17 left.
UW-L trailed 58-57 with 4:05 left after
Maggi Bishop hit a pair of free throws, but the Eagles would be held scoreless the rest of the game. UW-L missed its last nine shots from the field. UW-Whitewater went six-of-six at the free throw line in the final 1:17.
UW-L shot 34.5% from the field, including 28.6% (four-of-14) from three-point range, and 92.9% (13-of-14) at the free throw line. Atchison led the Eagles with 15 points and three steals while
Elise DeNoyer finished with 11 points and team-high seven rebounds.
Jenna Anderson and Bishop each totaled eight points while Chapin added seven points.
UW-Whitewater shot 40.7% from the field, including 42.9% (six-of-14) from three-point range, and 84.2% (16-of-19) at the line. Lisa Palmer led the Warhawks with 15 points while Reeves finished with 12.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, January 21 hosting 17th-ranked UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
