Box Score 2 La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team split a doubleheader with UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon at Copeland Park. The Eagles won the first game, 5-3, before falling in the nightcap, 3-2. UW-L is 22-14 overall and 14-7 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans are 17-17 overall and 7-13 in the WIAC. The Eagles had their 11-game overall winning streak snapped with the loss in Saturday's nightcap.
Both teams scored in the first inning of Saturday's opener. UW-Oshkosh's Trey Demler hit a solo home run in the top of the frame while UW-L answered back in the bottom of the inning as
Taylor Kohlwey scored on
Travis Buxton-Verstegen's sacrifice fly.
The Ealges took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third as
Joel Zyhowski scored on
Cole Cefalu's two-run home run.
UW-Oshkosh cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the eighth as pinch-runner Ben Hildebrandt scored on Zack Whalen's RBI groundout. UW-L took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth. Pinch-hitter
Shane Adler doubled with one out and scored on Kohlwey's two-run home run.
The Titans scored a run in the top of the ninth on a Zac Peterson single to knock in Ian Czarneski to make it 5-3. UW-Oshkosh had the tying runs on base with one out, but failed to score the rest of the game.
Ben Cejka (6-2) earned the victory for UW-L, throwing 8.0 innings, allowing three hits, two runs and five walks while striking out 10.
Jameson Sadowske earned his second save of the season, pitching 1.0 inning, allowing two hits and one run with one strikeout. Kohlwey finished 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI while Buxton-Verstegen went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Cefalu 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.
Travis Sindles (3-3) suffered the loss for the Titans, throwing 7.1 innings, allowing eight hits, four runs and three walks with two strikeouts. Five different players had a hit for UW-Oshkosh.
UW-L took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning in Saturday's nightcap.

Seth Feldman and Kohlwey started the inning with singles, including bunt-singles by Feldman and Kohley. Zyhowski's fielder's choice knocked in Rowles for the first run of the game.
UW-Oshkosh tied the game in the top of the fifth. Tyler Kozlowski singled with one out and stole second. He then scored on Trent Whitcomb's single to tie the game at 1-1. The Titans took a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh on Demler's two-out two-run home run.
The Eagles cut the margin to 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh with Kohlwey scoring on Buxton-Verstegen's two-out double. UW-L did not have a hit in the last two innings with its only base-runner coming on a
Jordan Greenland walk in the bottom of the eighth.
Joe Miller (2-4) suffered the loss for UW-L, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing 10 hits and three runs while striking out six. Kohlwey and Rowles each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Peter Jewell (4-1) earned the win for UW-Oshkosh, going 6.0 innings, allowing eight hits, two runs and one walk with five strikeouts. Joe Pavlovich picked up his first save of the season, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. The top-three, Kozlowski, Whitcomb and Demler, combined to go 7-for-15 with three runs and three RBI for the Titans.
UW-L and UW-Oshkosh will play another doubleheader Sunday, May 4 starting at noon at Copeland Park. It will be Senior Day in UW-L's regular-season finale.
