Box Score 2 La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep of UW-Superior Sunday afternoon at Copeland Park. The Eagles won both games, 13-3 and 18-5, in seven innings. UW-L improves to 19-13 overall and 11-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while UW-Superior drops to 16-13 overall and 7-9 in the WIAC. The doubleheader was moved to La Crosse due to unplayable field conditions in Superior.
UW-L extended its winning streak to eight games with Sunday's sweep. The Eagles earned a pair of victories over the Yellowjackets Saturday, winning 15-3 and 7-6. In its current eight-game winning streak, UW-L has scored at least 10 runs in seven contests and finished with at least 12 hits in each game. It is the Eagles' longest winning streak since capturing 10 straight during the 2012 season.
UW-L took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in Sunday's opener.
Taylor Kohlwey led-off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
Bryce Barsness later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Cole Cefalu.
In the fourth inning, the Eagles were able to plate three more runs to take a 5-0 lead.
Seth Feldman hit a two-run single to score
Joel Zyhowski and
Travis Buxton-Verstegen. Kohlwey followed with a single to score Feldman. UW-L tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend its lead to 7-0. Zyhowski's single scored pinch-runner

Alex Cordova.
UW-Superior got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a Alex Quinones RBI groundout to score Tom Fairbanks.
UW-L added two runs in the sixth inning. Feldman and Kohlwey led-off with back-to-back singles while Barsness reached on a throwing error to score Feldman.
Timmy Kehren added a pinch-hit RBI groundout to knock in Kohlwey.
Quinones had a run-scoring groundout to knock in UW-Superior's second run to make it 9-2 after six innings. UW-L scored four runs with two outs in the top of the seventh. Rowles drew a two-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He then scored on Feldman's single. After Kohlwey singled and Barsness walked to load the bases, Kehren drew a walk to drive in a run. Cordova added a two-run single to knock in Kohlwey and Barsness.
Matt Vold's RBI groundout finished the scoring in the bottom of the seventh.
Ben Cejka (5-2) earned the victory for UW-L, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing four hits, three runs (two earned) and seven walks while striking out six. Kohlwey finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Feldman went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI while Cordova finished 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI. Buxton-Verstegen went 2-for-5 while Kehren had two RBI and Barsness two runs scored.
Alex Beers (3-3) suffered the loss for UW-Superior, going 6.0 innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs (five earned). Four different players had a hit for the Yellowjackets.
Each team scored a run in the first inning in the nightcap with Kohlwey scoring on a balk for UW-L while Sam Holden had an RBI double to score Suguru Homma for UW-Superior.
UW-L scored nine runs in the next two innings to take a 10-1 lead. In the second, Buxton-Verstegen led-off with a walk and scored on a Kehren single. Kohlwey added a two-run single to score Rowles and Kehren while Cordova drew a bases-loaded walk to score Kohlwey. Zyhowski came in on a wild pitch to finish the scoring. The Eagles added four runs in the third inning. Kehren scored on Kohlwey's sacrifice fly while Zyhowski's single scored Rowles. Buxton-Verstegen's two-run single knocked in Zyhowski and Feldman.
Feldman singled with two outs in the fourth inning and scored on Kohlwey's two-run home run to extend UW-L's lead to 12-1. UW-Superior scored twice in the bottom of the fourth with Tyler Evans coming in a Hooma single and Wyatt Soderquist scoring on double from Tony Remund.
Derek Merkes hit a pinch-hit two-run double scoring Greenland and Cordova to give the Eagles a 14-3 lead. Following a 42-minute weather delay, Rowles singled to score Merkes to make it 15-3.
UW-Superior scored twice in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 15-5 on a two-run single from Fairbanks knocking in Homma and Soderquist. UW-L finished the scoring with three runs in the seventh.
Eric Vatch's double scored Merkes while Kohlwey added a two-run single to score Vatch and Rowles.
Joe Miler (2-3) earned the victory for the Eagles, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned) and three walks while striking out three. Kohlwey finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and seven RBI for UW-L while Rowles went 4-for-5 with three runs and an RBI. Kehren and Merkes each had two hits and scored twice with Merkes adding two RBI. Buxton-Verstegen also had two RBI.
Graham Miller (0-2) took the loss for the Yellowjackets, going 1.1 innings, allowing three hits, six runs and four walks with one strikeout. Homma, Fairbanks and Holden each finished with two hits for UW-Superior. Homma and Soderquist each had two runs scored while Fairbanks finished with two RBI.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, April 30 hosting UW-Platteville starting at 1 p.m. at Copeland Park.
