Baseball Team Falls in Spring Trip Finale

Box Score Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team fell 4-3 to California Lutheran University Friday afternoon on the final day of its spring trip. With the loss, the Eagles drop to 6-6 on the season while California Lutheran improves to 15-4.

California Lutheran began the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with three consecutive two-out singles to give the Kingsmen a 1-0 lead.

UW-L answered in the top of the third tying the game at 1-1. Joel Zyhowski led-off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nic Barnes. Josh Rowles followed with a single to score Zyhowski.

The Kingsmen took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly.

The Eagles responded in the top of the sixth. Bryce Barsness singled with one out and moved to third on a double by Cole Cefalu. Alex Cordova followed with a sacrifice fly tying the game at 2-2.

In the top of the eighth, UW-L took a 3-2 lead after Taylor Kohlwey tripled and scored on an RBI groundout by Barsness.

California Lutheran answered with a run in the bottom of the eighth on a pair of two-out hits tying the game at 3-3.

UW-L loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth, but failed to score.

The Kingsmen scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Ben Cejka started for the Eagles, pitching 8.0 innings. He allowed three runs (two earned), nine hits and three walks while striking out seven. Joe Miller (0-2) pitched the ninth and took the loss for UW-L.

Zyhowski finished 2-for-3 with one run while Barsness, Cordova, and Rowles each had an RBI.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, March 26 hosting Saint Mary's University (Minn.) in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at Copeland Park in the Eagles' home debut.
