Box Score Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team fell 5-2 in 10 innings to Spalding University (Ky.) Tuesday at the Tucson Invitational. The Eagles drop 3-5 on the season while the Golden Eagles improve to 6-3.
UW-L scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Alex Cordova ripped a one-out triple to center field and scored on a double by Travis Buxton-Verstegan giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Spalding came right back in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead on Ryan Selent's two-run single.
UW-L tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. With one out,
Josh Rowles was hit-by-pitch and stole second. Two batters later,
Cole Cefalu knocked in Rowles with a run-scoring single to left field tying the game at 2-2.
Spalding scored three runs in the top of the 10th. Selent lead off with a single and two batters later moved to third on an error. Derek Ferch then drove in Selent with an infield single giving the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead. After a sacrifice bunt moved runners to second and third, Sam White delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to 5-2.
UW-L went down in order in the bottom of the 10th.
Jameson Lavery started for UW-L, pitching 9.0 innings. He allowed five hits, two runs and four walks while striking out four.
Travis Kruckow (0-1) took the loss for the Eagles, going 1.0 inning, allowing three runs (one earned) and three hits with two strikeouts.
Taylor Kohlwey went 2-for-5 for UW-L.
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, March 18 versus Marian University (Wis.) at 3 p.m. (Central Time).
