Women's Basketball Extends Winning Streak to Three

Box Score Wisconsin Dells, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 61-51 victory over the University of Dubuque (Iowa) Tuesday afternoon at the JustAgame Holiday Shootout in the JustAgame Fieldhouse.  The Eagles improve to 6-6 on the season while the Spartans drop to 5-5.  WIth the win, UW-L avenges an early season 77-60 loss at Dubuque (Iowa) November 19.

UW-L went 2-0 in the JustAgame Holiday Shootout after a 61-56 win over Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) Monday afternoon.

The Eagles scored the first nine points in Tuesday's win with Elise DeNoyer having five points. UW-L lead 13-6 with 12:08 remaining in the first half after a Rachel Atchison layup, but Dubuque (Iowa) went on a 11-4 run to force the first time of the game at 17-17 with 7:05 left.  The game was tied 20-20 with 6:39 remaining when the Spartans scored seven of the next nine points to lead 27-22 with 2:46 left. Dubuque (Iowa) led 31-27 at halftime.

Atchison scored the first seven points of the second half to give UW-L a 34-31 advantage with 18:13 remaining. DeNoyer's two free throws with 17:50 left made it 36-31, but Dubuque (Iowa) scored six straight points on a pair of three-point field goals from Meggie Schmidt and Jenna Kotas to give the Spartans a 37-36 lead with 17:07 remaining. MaKenzie Miller's layup gave UW-L a 38-37 lead with 16:48 left and the Eagles would never trail again as they scored seven straight points.

Dubuque (Iowa) later cut the lead to 47-45 with 7:34 remaining, but UW-L went on an 8-0 run to make it 55-45 with 4:48 left. The Spartans could get no closer than six points the rest of the game.

UW-L shot 41.2% from the field, including 33.3% (five-of-15) from three-point range, and 58.3% (14-of-24) at the free throw line.

Atchison led the Eagles with 16 points while also grabbing six rebounds and recording two steals. Miller finished with 14 points and eight rebounds while DeNoyer recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds while also finishing with three assists.

Dubuque (Iowa) shot 21.5% from the field, including 24.2% (eight-of-33) from three-point range, and 65.2% (15-of-23) at the line.

Kotas led the Spartans with 17 points while Jessica Goetz finished with eight. Kayla Springer had a team-high seven rebounds.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 3 at UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
