Box Score Wisconsin Dells, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned its second straight victory with a 61-56 win over Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) Monday afternoon at the JustAgame Holiday Shootout in the JustAgame Fieldhouse. The Eagles improve to 5-6 on the season while the Vikings drop to 1-8. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
UW-L scored the first 10 points of the game as Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) missed its first seven shots from the field. The Vikings got on the scoreboard on Angela DeBruzzi's three-pointer with 14:03 left in the opening half to make it 10-3, but the Eagles scored the next seven points to lead 17-3 with 10:46 left.
Rachel Atchison hit a three-point field goal and
Mikayla Simmons made a pair of field goal attempts for UW-L's 7-0 run.
Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) trailed 23-11 with 5:35 left in the first half when it finished the half on an 11-2 run to cut the halftime deficit to 25-22. UW-L went one-of-eight from the field in the last 5:15.
The Vikings took their first lead of the game with 17:38 left on a Anna Balcom jumper. Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) later led 31-30 with 13:04 remaining when UW-L went on a 10-0 run to lead 40-31 with 10:50 left.
Cameron Chapin's jumper gave the Eagles a 32-31 advantage with 12:44 remaining and UW-L would never trail again.
The Eagles led 45-35 with 8:43 left when the Vikings used a 11-3 run to cut the lead to 48-46 with 5:12 left. UW-L led 54-52 with 1:43 remaining when
Elise DeNoyer's three-point play gave the Eagles a 57-52 lead with :45 left. Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) cut the lead to 57-54 on two free throws from Lacey Elllinghuysen with :32 remaining, but UW-L's
Maggi Bishop made a pair of free throws with :14 left to make it 59-54. Ellinghuysen made two free throws with :05 left to make it a three-point game, but DeNoyer sealed the win with a pair of free throws with :00 remaining.
UW-L shot 36.1% from the field, including 21.1% (four-of-19) from three-point range, and 65.0% (13-of-20) at the free throw line.
MaKenzie Miller led the Eagles with 12 points and 11 rebounds, recording her third double-double of the season. She was six-of-eight from the field Monday. DeNoyer and
Sierra Watrud each scored 10 points for UW-L Monday with DeNoyer recording six rebounds.
Jenna Anderson had 10 rebounds for the Eagles.
Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) shot 25.0% from the field, including 20.0% (four-of-20) from three-point range, and 76.5% (26-of-34) at the line.
Angela DeBruzzi led the Vikings with 18 points while Ellinghuysen finished with 13. Briana Brandts recorded a double-double for Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) with 10 points and game-high 13 rebounds.
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, December 30 versus the University of Dubuque (Iowa) at 3:30 p.m. in the JustAgame Holiday Shootout.
