Women's Basketball Falls to Carroll in Non-Conference Game

MaKenzie Miller set career-highs with 25 points and 13 rebounds Sunday afternoon.
Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 82-68 to Carroll University (Wis.) in non-conference action Sunday afternoon in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles drop to 3-4 on the season while the Pioneers improve to 4-1.  Carroll (Wis.) snapped a two-game losing streak to UW-L with the victory.

Carroll (Wis.) never trailed in Sunday's contest.  The Pioneers led 9-8 with 16:29 remaining in the first half when they went on a 10-0 run to lead 19-8 with 13:36 left.  Carroll (Wis.) went 10-of-12 from the field to open the game.

UW-L cut its deficit to 19-10 on MaKenzie Miller's jumper with 13:03 remaining, but Carroll (Wis.) used a 15-4 run to take a 34-14 lead with 8:03 left in the opening half.  The Pioneers led by as many as 21 points in the first half before the Eagles cut the lead to 48-33 at halftime.  Carroll (Wis.) shot 60.7% (17-of-28) from the field in the first 20 minutes.

The Eagles cut the lead to 67-55 with 7:58 left in the game on a Miller layup, but could get no closer the rest of the game.

UW-L shot 44.4% from the field, including 38.5% (five-of-13) from three-point range, and 68.2% (15-of-22) at the line.

Miller set career-highs with 25 points and 13 rebounds Sunday, finishing 11-of-17 from the field and three-of-five from the free throw line.  Rachel Atchison scored 17 points off the Eagles' bench while Maggi Bishop finished with 10 points and six rebounds.  Jenna Anderson finished with seven points, six assists and two steals.

Carroll (Wis.) shot 49.0% from the field, including 42.9% (three-of-seven) from three-point range, and 76.3% (29-of-38) at the line.

Corrine Engels led five Pioneers' in double figures with 21 points, including going 13-of-14 at the free throw line.  She also had seven assists, five steals and four rebounds.  Malory Christenson totaled 18 points while Rachel Van Sluys had 13 points off the bench.  Julia Piech finished with 11 points, seven assists and five steals while Breann Maryanski had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, December 3 opening Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play at UW-Platteville at 7 p.m.
