Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team opened its 2014-15 season with a 44-0 dual victory at UW-Platteville Friday night in Williams Fieldhouse. The Eagles improve to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers drop to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference. It is UW-L's eighth straight win over UW-Platteville.
Ryan Weinmann opened the dual with a win by decision (11-6 in overtime) over Cole Ferguson at 125-pounds.Â
Dustin Weinmann made it 9-0 for UW-L with a win by fall (1:37) over Zach Stenger at 133.Â
Austin Schoen followed with a victory by technical fall (15-0, 7:00) over Jacob Somann at 141-pounds to give the Eagles a 14-0 lead.
UW-L's
Kasey Einerson recorded the team's second win by fall (1:47) over Jeremy Peterson at 149. The Eagles won the next three matches by decision to take a 29-0.Â
Derek Weinmann won by decision (9-4) over Gunnar Melstrand at 157-pounds;
Tyler Schneider won by decision (7-1) over Mike Uliana at 165 and
Alex Friedman won by decision (5-0) over Cody Myer at 174.
The Eagles'
Richard Carlson made it 35-0 as he won by fall (1:29) over Michael Cole at 184-pounds.
Eric Twohey followed with a technical fall (18-1, 5:23) victory over Joshua Cannon at 197 and
Cody Endres earned a major decision (11-3) win over Brandon Boyle at 285.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 15 at the Luther College (Iowa) Open starting at 9 a.m.
