Box Score Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 85-80 double overtime victory over 15th-ranked UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night in Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles improve to 9-10 overall and 3-7 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans fall to 16-2 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
UW-L raced out to an 13-2 lead. UW-Oshkosh took its first lead of the game at 23-21 with 8:01 left in the opening half after a Alicia Tollefson three-point field goal. The Titans led 29-25 with 3:01 remaining in the half when the Eagles finished the half on a 10-3 run to lead 35-32.
UW-L led 41-32 with 15:55 left in the game, but UW-Oshkosh used a 8-0 run to cut the lead to 41-40. The Eagles led 47-43 with 8:19 remaining after a
Rachel Atchison three-pointer, but the Titans went on a 11-1 run to take their largest lead of the game at 54-48 with 5:22 left.
The Titans, ranked 15th on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, led 57-52 with 1:53 remaining when the Eagles'
Mallory Cramer hit four straight free throws to make it 57-56 with 1:00 left. Sarah Stecker made a pair of free throws for UW-Oshkosh to give the Titans a 59-56 advantage with :16 remaining, but Cramer connected on a three-pointer with :03 left to force overtime.
Both teams led by as many as two in the first overtime.
Maggi Bishop gave UW-L a 66-65 lead with :24 left on a layup and after UW-Oshkosh missed a three-point attempt, the Eagles'
Marina Kneeland made one-of-two at the line with :10 remaining for a 67-65 lead. The Titans' forced the second overtime as Taylor Schmidt made two free throws with :03 remaining.
UW-Oshkosh took a 75-74 lead with 1:56 left in the second overtime on Schmidt's two free throws, but Atchison gave UW-L a 77-75 lead on a three-pointer with 1:39 remaining. Stecker tied the contest on a layup with 1:23 left, but
Jenna Anderson made two free throws with :53 remaining and UW-L would never trail again.
After a missed three-pointer by UW-Oshkosh, Anderson made two free throws with :16 left to make it 81-77. Schmidt cut the deficit to 81-79 with a layup with :10 remaining, but Anderson made four free throws in the final :10 to end the game. She went eight-of-eight at the line in the final :53.
UW-L shot 43.4% from the field, including 50.0% (eight-of-16) from three-point range, and 68.9% (31-of-45) at the free throw line. The 31 free throws made is tied for fourth in single-game school history while the 45 attempts is tied for second.
Atchison led the Eagles with 28 points, going eight-of-14 from the field, including five-of-nine from three-point range. She was seven-of-nine at the free throw line. Cramer and Bishop each recorded a double-double as Cramer finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Bishop totaled 10 points and 14 rebounds. Cramer also had seven steals. Anderson scored 16 points for UW-L.
UW-Oshkosh shot 31.9% from the field, including 30.8% (eight-of-26) from three-point range, and 80.0% (28-of-35) at the line.
Katelyn Kuehl and Taylor Schmidt each had 17 points for the Titans while Sarah Stecker and Maggie Novak each had 11. Kuehl had a team-high nine rebounds.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, February 1 hosting UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m.
