Box Score Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 70-55 at 24th-ranked UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon in Berg Gym. The Eagles drop to 8-10 overall and 2-7 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers improve to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference. The Pointers are ranked 24th on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll.
The game was tied 6-6 with 16:43 left in the first half after
Maggi Bishop's layup. UW-Stevens Point then went on a 18-0 run to lead 24-6 with 9:33 remaining. The Pointers led 40-19 at halftime.
UW-L scored the first six points of the second half to cut the lead to 40-25 with 16:00 left after a
Jenna Anderson layup. UW-Stevens Point then scored the game's next seven points to lead 47-25. The Eagles later cut the deficit to 52-36 with 9:42 remaining, but the Pointers scored five straight points to lead 57-36 with 6:50 left.
UW-L could get no closer than 14 points the rest of the game.
UW-L shot 32.4% from the field, including 18.8% (three-of-16) from three-point range, and 40.0% (six-of-15) at the free throw line.
Anderson led the Eagles with 10 points while
Rachel Atchison finished with nine points and
Erin Levenhagen eight.
Mallory Cramer added seven points.
Katie Ehlen had a game-high eight rebounds.
UW-Stevens Point 45.7% from the field, including 57.1% (four-of-seven) from three-point range, and 66.7% (24-of-36) at the line.
Jenna Pitt, Autumn Hennes, Myranda Tyler and Lauren Anklam each had nine points for the Pointers while Alyssa Olp and Allie Micelli each scored eight points.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, January 29 at 15th-ranked UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
