Wrestling Team Drops Conference Match at UW-Whitewater

RJ Dilcher earned the win by major decision at 157-pounds Thursday night.
Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team fell 27-7 at UW-Whitewater Thursday night in Kachel Gym.  The Eagles, ranked 14th on the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Poll, drop to 8-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).  The Warhawks, ranked third on the NWCA Poll, improve to 17-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

UW-Whitewater took the first four matches to lead 13-0 with two matches decided by one point and one match decided by two points.  Zac Denny opened with a win by decision (6-4) over UW-L's Ryan Weinmann at 125-pounds followed by fourth-ranked Jimmy Nehls earning the win by decision (5-4) over 10th-ranked Dustin Weinmann at 133-pounds.

Sixth-ranked Matt Adcock won by decision (3-2) over Austin Schoen at 141-pounds and eighth-ranked Elroy Perkin won by major decision (10-2) over Dylan Shaffer at 149-pounds.

UW-L got on the board at 157-pounds as RJ Dilcher earned a major decision win (14-0) over UW-Whitewater's Cam Loomis to make it 13-4.

The Warhawks took the next two matches to lead 19-4. Fifth-ranked Cedric Gibson won by decision (7-2) over Tyler Schneider at 165-pounds and TJ Decker won by decision (9-3) over Cody Grunenwald at 174-pounds.

The Eagles' Eric Twohey, ranked second in the country, cut the lead to 19-7 as he won by decision (2-0) over Ryan Aprahamian at 184-pounds.

UW-Whitewater's top-ranked Shane Siefert won by technical fall (16-1, 3:50) over UW-L's Mike Minske at 197-pounds and third-ranked Anthony Edgren won by decision in overtime (3-1) over the Eagles' Jake Minske at 285-pounds.

UW-L returns to action Friday, January 31 at the Wheaton College (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational.
