UW-La Crosse Falls at 14th-Ranked UW-Whitewater

Box Score Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 84-75 at 14th-ranked UW-Whitewater Wednesday night in Kachel Gym.  The Eagles drop to 8-9 overall and 2-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks improve to 14-3 overall and 8-0 in the conference.  UW-Whitewater earned its fourth straight win over UW-L with Wednesday's victory. 

UW-Whitewater, ranked 14th on the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, led 13-10 in the first half when it went on a 9-3 run to lead 22-13 with 11:45 left after a Mary Merg three-point field goal.  UW-L later cut the lead to 28-22 with 9:11 remaining and trailed 38-30 with 4:07 left when UW-Whitewater went on a 8-0 run to lead 46-30.  The Warhawks led 49-35 at halftime.

UW-Whitewater started the second half on a 12-2 run to lead 61-37.  The Warhaws led 82-50 with 6:34 left before the Eagles ended the game on a 25-2 run.  

UW-L shot 42.1% from the field, including 31.6% (six-of-19) from three-point range, and 60.0% (21-of-35) at the free throw line.  

Rachel Atchison led the Eagles with 20 points while Katie Ehlen finished with 10 points and six rebounds.  Mallory Cramer had a team-high eight rebounds. 

UW-Whitewater shot 39.7% from the field, including 26.3% (five-of-19) from three-point range, and 80.6% (29-of-36) at the line.

Merg led four players in double figures for the Warhawks with 13 points.  Abbie Reeves finished with 11 points while Amy Mandrell and Kaitlyn Thill each had 10 points. 

UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 25 at 24th-ranked UW-Stevens Point at 3 p.m.
