#14 UW-La Crosse 37, UW-Oshkosh 7
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team earned a 37-7 victory over UW-Oshkosh Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improved to 8-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans fall to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
UW-L won the first four matches Friday to take a 17-0 lead. The Eagles'
Ryan Weinmann opened the dual with a win by major decision (13-1) over the Titan's Scott Worlund at 125-pounds followed
Martino Balsiger winning by decision (10-6) over Craig Mason at 133-pounds.
Austin Schoen won by major decision (11-1) over Joey Pelkey at 141-pounds and UW-L's
Dylan Shaffer won by fall (2:28) over UW-Oshkosh's Jerome Scott at 149.
Schoen improved to 10-2 on the year while Shaffer moved to 9-2 on the season.
The Titans got on the scoreboard at 157-pounds as top-ranked Nazar Kulchytskyy won by major decision (16-4) over the Eagles'
Derek Weinmann. Kulchytskyy, a two-time NCAA Division III champion, improved to 15-2 on the season.
UW-L's
Tyler Schneider won by decision (8-6) over Thomas Dahlke at 165-pounds to make it 20-4.
UW-Oshkosh's Dan Schiferl, ranked fourth at 174-pounds, cut the Eagles' lead to 20-7 with a win by decision (8-2) over UW-L's
Richard Carlson. Schiferl is now 13-4 on the year.
UW-L then took the final three matches with
Eric Twohey winning by technical fall (16-0, 6:18) over Korey Kleinhans at 184-pounds;
Mike Minske won by forfeit at 197 and
Jake Minske won by fall (2:24) over Brandon Clapper at 285. Twohey improved to 11-0 on the season with his win Friday night while
Mike Minske improved to 9-1.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 18 at the Cornell College (Iowa) Matman Invitational at 9 a.m.
